I got home from work yesterday @ 4:30 in the afternoon excited to see my new fuzzy butts. :

:hit:hit Looked in on them and two were dead. All the rest were ok it seemed. I started with 21 chicks hatched. Then I got up this morning and one more dead.

:confused: I don't know what could be the problem. I hatched these chicks from my own flock. This is the most I have hatch in a hatch with 21 hatching. So far I have lost 8 total dead -3- in the bator-2-day after hatch then three days later 3 more. I feed them med. chick starter with fresh water twice a day. For bedding I use news paper with corn cobs on top of paper. They are also in the house in a 65 gallon fish aquarium in the wall with a heat lamp over the top of them. any ideas? normally when I get a chick to the brooder (aquarium) I do not loose them!

That is strange. Did they hatch on their own, or did you have to help them out? If I have to help them out, I end up giving them electrolytes when they are about 6 or 7 hrs. old. Just a tiny, tiny drop of it...about every hr. and a half, then an hr. then watch to see how they are doing and if they still need it.
Sorry!

Possibly some kind of bacteria in the incubator that either kills them in the bator or weakens them so that they don't survive?? I can't think of anything else....how heartbreaking. So sorry for losing your chicks!

On a happier note...I have my first pip. I suspect my action will be overnight and during tomorrow morning.

So sorry to hear about your babies. I am new at this so I do not have any advice. I have not had any activity in my bator yet. No peeps, pips, anything. Tomorrow will be day 21. I hope the rest of your babies make it ok!
