Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

I know exactly what you mean! I never saw the veining either...however...if you candle on or after day 10...and see a air cell the size depicted in most articles...and a blob and sometimes you see a darker spot about the size of two pencil erasers...then you should be ok. My first and only candling...I had 13 eggs. First candling done on day 7...I removed three that I could tell where not fertile. I marked 5 more with question marks but left them in. Day 10 I candled again...felt better because the "blobs" were bigger in most but..removed two more. NO movement seen in any however.. Day 18...candled prior to lockdown. All were as pictured in candling postings and two question-marked...I could tell...still looked the same as day 10 but left them. I ended up with 6 hatchers and two that did not. I checked the two after and they had stopped early on. I think "experience" will help us be better judges for sure.

I am unbelievably disappointed this morning. Out of 54 eggs that I started with, it looks like I only have 20 that are developing. I had 4 that were cracked and had to be removed. I will check the remaining 30 eggs in a few days to see if I was wrong, but it doesn't look good for them. This is my first time for shipped eggs, but I just figured I would get better results than this. I spent way too much money on these eggs to end up with only 20 chickens (and that's if I am lucky)! Maybe i missed a couple and I'll have more developing than I think....

That is too bad Stevenson...but I read of some people getting"zip" from shipped eggs. I will be disappointed also if I don't get at least half of the 24 developing..but I guess that is how it goes. Also...today a Michigan thread poster said she had two eggs with tiny bubbles on the outside of them...she asked if we knew what that meant. She found out...they EXPLODED in the incubator. So I'm checking for that also tomorrow when I candle!

I'm so sorry. I just had to tell a person that I bought from, that only one is developing. They can't help it once those eggs leave them and are in the P.O.
The first time I had a bad experience with the low fertility showing, I actually asked if I could get some more for the cost of shipping. I don't do that any more. I've read too many times where this happens. We just have to remember that when the eggs leave the person shipping them, they are fertile. The folks on here are really good to check fertility before they put any up for sale. Also, if you order on E-bay, go with the ones that say they have checked fertility, and also look for follow up comments on the eggs sold before. We do the best we can too when we order. I certainly know who to stay away from on E-bay! And I know who is good with checking fertility there too.
Sorry again, wish me luck with my just one little tiny bantam in the bator, along with the other eggs that I am doing with this hatch along. Will have to put the little one in a bator by itself when the time comes...you know I'll be hanging over it on day 19 if it hasn't pipped by then!

Really sorry to hear your results and I feel your pain. On my first hatch I received 12 eggs, 1 of which was weeping out of the box and not set. In the end I had 4 clear eggs which looked infertile, 6 early quitters and one late quitter that died sometime during lock down. I let 4 of them go to lock down because my daughter was really hopeful, but it wasn't meant to be. I didn't contact the seller because I figure those are the chances you take with shipped eggs. It was a learning experience well worth the $22 spent on eggs and shipping. If I had spent much more, I might have been inclined to contact the seller about the clear eggs.

I hope the rest of them make it, and kudos to the seller for being willing to send you more eggs!

The kids just loved this one, the dark spot swims away from the light. It is much more active than the others, I think a hen might have given it a day or two's head start.
