Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

I love the colors of my eggs.

Hey Cat..we just had a storm move through..thank goodness it was fast. I am hoping that this is the thunder storm that we were told we were going to have, or maybe it's just part of it, because we were told it was to come in tomorrow?? Hoping we don't get more!

I'm glad everyones eggs and incubators are still intact. Thankfully we didn't have to worry about that here in CA- but when I decided to try a broody hen I never even considered the risk power outages would pose to an incubator. Scary.

That was a nice egg picture earlier. Really pretty ones. Of the EEs I ordered, two were green and one was tan- all labeled EE by My Pet Chicken. Does anyone know, have they done some kind of breeding where the bird that hatches out of the brown egg will be able to lay the green eggs I usually think of when I think of an EE? Or do chickens lay eggs the same color as the ones they hatch from?

I do think chickens can lay different colour eggs than they hatched from -- I'm not sure about the likelihood though.

As long as people are still signing on for hatch buddies, here is my info:

6 black copper maran eggs set under my broody hen on April 9 -- due to hatch on around the 29th. This is my first time with a broody hen!

I'm not sure about the egg color always being same..anyone else? I do know that, not all EE's will have a greenish colored leg. I had a gal that looked like a RIR..laid the most beautiful olive green egg..not the mix of green and blue, but the real olive green..that surprised me. No tufts on the cheeks, no color in the legs, no beard...but a nice green egg.

Chickibaby..what kind of frizzles? I just hatched some darling frizzle cochins, some LF, some bantam.

SJ...broody hens are fun. I've only had one..that's how I got started on incubating myself. Looking forward to another broody in the future.

Welcome you two...

Cynthia ...glad your little chicky was able to hatch out and do ok with the power out! We rarely have power outages right where I am...they lose power a lot a few miles from us but they have a different power company. We have a generator but haven't used it in several years so not sure it even works. Yesterday my computer wouldn't work and it took me an hour to realize it was due to the ice and snow on the satellite dish...which the computer works with. DUH!
Today UPS is suppose to bring my new ovascope...but Brinsea has requested a 'signature" on delivery and we have numerous functions to attend today. I'm leaving a note for the delivery man requesting he leaves it here regardless...but most likely he will take it to our nearest UPS store...40 minutes away. SIGH. I really wanted to candle tonight but if I can't get my hands on the package I won't be able to.
Sure hope we are done with all the storms rolling through!!! Doesn't mother nature know we have priceless jewels developing in our homes?
