Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

OK just to make sure I get it right...I set at about 9:30 pm May 04..I should lockdown 9:30 pm May 22-if I do lockdown but only increase the humidity the next morning that should be OK? Or should I go ahead and start getting that humidity up at 9:30 on may 22? It's my first time so I have no idea how easy it will be to hold the humidity up (though today I have the a/c running inside because it's super humid). I just don't want to mess up at this late stage of the game!!

I raise my humidity on the day, or night of lockdown..put a sponge in there under the top hole of the bator..can add water if needed during the days waiting..I use a straw and a syringe to squirt the water through to the sponge. Works great.
Yes, set on Sunday morning, will be fine..you can go ahead with bringing up the humidity the night before..won't hurt.

I have my first baby Mille Fluer D'Uccle! It's soo tiny.

Diet eggs...coming this fall.

But grandkids will love the smaller birds.

In both of my hatches, the eggs hatched on day 20. I don't lockdown until the evening of day 18.....but that's just me.

then tonight would be a good time for me to lockdown. I have no idea what will happen with this hatch. It's day 18 but the eggs don't seem right.
on the other hand this is my first hatch. so I will go with it
Thanks

Hello all

My hatch date is May 26th. I have two problems I hope you can help me with.

1) The auto egg turner did not turn for the first seven days. The motor was running so I thought it was working but one of the arms was jammed against the motor so they did not get turned. What should I exect come hatching day

? I've read about deformities, death after zipping, all kinds of horrible stuff...

2) This is the worst part! I have to fly to Spokane on MONDAY

!!! My 18 year old daughter Sammey is coming over to sit with the eggs, but has never done this before, and I hate to leave her all alone if something goes wrong. I don't want her to freak out and think she did something wrong if one or more die! My advice to her will be "just let nature takes it course if anything goes wrong" but would you guys kindly help her out if she asks for help along the way? I've told her how very helpful everyone has been so far...

My eggs are mostly a mixed batch since this is my first hatch, but couldn't resist ordering some Pheasant Brahma eggs, which were shipped.
Then I picked up some Coronation Sussex which went into the empty egg holders on May 12th. I purchased them from Paul's Rare Poultry which is fairly close to me. He's been awesome about explaining how to do a sequential hatch, but I'm still nervous.

I'm going to candle again tonight - last candling was last week but still confused as to what I'm actually seeing, especially on the darker eggs. I've been using a small MAG light, but will use a regular 150 watt bulb in a can tonight and see if I can spot any movement.

BTW, I'm using a Hova Bator.

Good luck to all of us on our hatch!

I am a teacher hatching chicks in a little giant incubator still air. This is my second time doing it, one unsucessful hatch last May. I put the eggs in the incubator on May 3rd at 9 a.m.

When should I take them out of the turner and up the humidity? Saturday May 21st in the morning or tonight Friday May 20th?

Also, what should humidity and temp be day 18-21? I am using thermometer on top of eggs and on bottom of egg turner right now.

I candled and saw movement and veins in 20 out of 33 eggs

I would turn them for the last time tonight, start your count tomorrow as day 18..hatch day..21st...or sooner..or a day longer..never know..they don't always hatch the same day.

Humidity for my bator works well at 65..some like it higher..you will come to know your bator and how it works best.

Yaay, all three have hatched.. a day early. They are doing well. When all dry and fluffy will post pictures. Cute faces on these.

Can't wait to see pics!!

I have a question that may have been answered before....
on day 18 when you stop turning them... my incubator has an egg tray with separator bars for different sizes of eggs. I have the eggs in between them with the pointy side down. I am wondering do I take the bars out and leave them in the tray on their sides? I have read that you are not supposed to turn them because it disorients them and tires them out. Just a little confused.... I didnt know if it mattered to have the eggs on their sides for the rest of the time. But thought it would be bad on the chicks trying to hatch if those divider bars were in the way....
