I have one chick that has a crusty navel, it is not infected or anything and she is doing great however my past experience in having a white chick with a navel like this ends up getting pecked and can result in their death , i don't want to put her by herself even in the pen because it will stress her.

I tried paper tape to cover it up but they are a bit waterproof at this age and it would not stick, so anyone wanna throw some ideas as to how i could camouflage the navel till it falls out on it's own

I would be very leery of putting any liquid on the navel as it's a perfect place for bacteria to enter.

Chickens AreSweet,
thanks for the idea it may come in handy another time for something else

How about some sort of wrap using a something like Vet-Wrap? This is another product and it sticks to everything... maybe you could make a bandaid out of it?

I buy a product that is or about is what was called in last post blu kote .. It is sold here as blue lotion.... and is dark violet, I works very good on pecking problems open cuts about any damage to a chicken or peafowl. I helps heal and the color stays forever and the other birds do not bother the bird with this on it . It will stain what ever you get it on. I have used it for over 30 yrs and always have some on hand .. you cant beat it for feather picking or even open holes from picking problems.. connerhills

Just thinking out loud... How about something like a dog sweater, but made from an infant sock? Or a modified bird diaper, modified to let poop fall out, 'cause you don't want poop on that navel.
