This little chick has been playing mind games with me lately. Sometimes her comb will be pinkish and I can’t decide if it’s the light or if I might have a cockerel on my hands. She feathered really quickly and her legs are a comparable thickness to a sex-link pullet and an EE that I’m also pretty confident is a pullet. Does anything about this chick scream cockerel to you? I know it’s early, but I want her so much to be a she. The pics in the grass are from a couple weeks ago, one more from about three weeks ago, the rest were taken today.

Some days the comb is pale, others it’s pinker, and today was one of those days. What do you think?

Isabel/Lavendar/Splash can be pretty difficult to tell until they're older. Many of the pullets I've had have been pinker than normal in the comb, but there are also a lot late maturing cockerels also. Could you get a better photo of the comb? I would still hold some hope that this one could be a pullet from what I see, but it also could go either way still.

I’ll try again tomorrow to get a close up of the comb. I’m only seeing one row of nubs, for what it’s worth.

Here are some more comb pics

@LadiesAndJane what do you thing? I still think it could go either way at this age - although it's not a super clear example of three rows or the lack of three rows. I usually don't see such a clear row on my pullets, but on the other hand the cockerels are usually much more distinct.

Thanks for the tag. :)This is a tricky one! Looking like a cockerel. The rows are pretty prominant. I would not make any decisions though on this one until 12-14 weeks of age. :)

I've heard that the pea comb rows trick works on EEs. Not sure about Ameraucanas, but I can say for a fact that it does not work on Brahmas who are obviously pea combed as well. This leads to me personally avoiding that method :)
