I got my newest chicken in May of this year and for the past month she had been limping. I thought she had gotten stung by a bee or something or just hurt her foot but she is still hurt and now is using her wings to take the pressure off her feet when she walks. I can not see anything on her foot. Is this a disease? All she does now is perch on the stick and sits there all day. She is not laying either. I removed her from the other chickens too because she was new and I was afraid of them pecking her to death because she is new. Please let me know if there is something I should do. Thank you

Can you post pics?

Not knowing anything else about this situation, I would just mention that using the wing to help balance is one hallmark symptom of a staph or other bacterial infection that has infected the joints, usually the hip or hock.

Now I would not hazard a positive diagnosis without more information, but this might help you start researching (or seeking the advice of a veterinarian).

Good luck, and please keep us posted on your chick.

Did you introduce this chicken by herself into a new flock? It is also possible they injured her.

I would isolate her immediately to a quiet, safe kennel or cage with plenty of food and fresh water so you can keep a close eye on her.

She is now isolated from the other chickens with her buddy that I got at the same time. I will look into what is going on..does anyone know how much a vet charges for a first time visit? Gestimations work for me

What does the bottom of her foot look like. If it is very dirty rinse it off. Is there any swelling or something that looks like a black scab? If yes look up bumblefoot and treat for that.

If not she may have just hurt herself like any person could. Are there any parts of her leg that are swollen or feel hot compared to the other leg?
