Planning on moving this Summer. Was wondering the best way to move 10 mature chickens?
potty breaks? Eating breaks? Grass? Water? How to deal with stress?

Would love tips.

Much Love,

What state do you live in, and to what state are you moving? You wouldn't be allowed to bring chickens into CA, for example, as there is an outbreak of virulent Newcastle disease. There are other states with agricultural inspections, so it's best to do your homework first.

Yes, check with the agriculture dept of the state to which you are moving - they might request anything from a health certificate from a vet to Avian Influenza testing on each bird...could get pricey fast!
As far as the actual travel, if it's under 10-12 hour drive, I probably would do the travel at night since they don't eat or drink at night, they kind of zone out in the dark. Might be less stressful on them (and you).

X3 on getting the paperwork and any testing done in time. Big pet crates work fine for traveling chickens, and take their food and water. Heat is a big issue for them, so plan for that; night travel is good, shade, ventilation, no overcrowding. A one day trip will be much easier than multiple days, but it's doable.

It would actually be moving Chickens out of CA. What sort of things do I have to do to be able to move my girls?
