Need tips/suggestions for dog's dry skin!

I have a dog with severe skin problems I have gone to several vets with diff diagnosis at each ...food allergy, flea allergy, grass allergy, yeast...

The vet will give us prednisone and antibiotics when it gets really bad. Last vet insisted it was yeast and gave us a 4 week course of ketoconizole)

Some people use neutrogena t-gel shampoo - (didn't work for us)

When it gets severe we use good old benadryl - the dose is higher than human dose - my 10 lb dog gets a 25 mg capsule.

Any way hope maybe some of this might help

have you tried plain yogurt, and olive oil and egg? If not, you may be able to say goodbye to modern medication pumped through your doggie. Tis better to solve the problem then treat the problem when it happens

I reccomend an egg (whole raw)--you can even give the shell but most dogs just lick around the shell and dont eat it much, 1 tbs of olive oil, and 1-2 tbs of plain yogurt.

IF your dog has never had this stuff before though start off with just an egg, or just a tbs of oil or just a table spoon of yogurt a day and then see how they do.

Warning eggs can give doggies gas lol!

I'd reccomend if you want to start out with something do the oil and yogurt first.

Most benifitial but if you want to do all three go for it they all help!

in 2-3 weeks you should notice a huge difference if your doggie doesnt have something severe wrong (with her skin).

The oil will help moisturize the coat as well the egg
the yogurt will keep away secondary infections aka yeast.

feed separate or mix right in their daily food

by the way the yogurt HAS to be plain yougurt, make sure it has "lactobacillus" that's the active ingreds that helps kill yeast (any yeast, skin, even uterine). No worries though as most plain yogurts have it in them.

Make sure it's really dry skin... I thought our new GP puppy just had dry skin... poor baby was scratching and was a bit flakey...

Turns out he has scabies... or Sub(somthing) mange... Now I have to bomb my house and treat all the animals.... I think I might now have it too.... at least I don't really need treatment except to stop the itching.... if you need more info go to www.Petzmd.com

good luck

theres a type of mange dogs can get that is noncontagious, then theres another type that is contagious. I had a dobie that was allergic to her own natural micro-organisms, it wasnt contagious but her life was miserable.
