I've never done this before...yikes! I have a very "makeshift" little run for my little girls until I can get their real run built. The weather has been SO hot I just had to get them out of the coop for at least a while. Made it with scraps of chicken wire, some stakes, etc. It's about 6' x 8' and about 30" high. Problem is I ran out of leftovers and have an "eye to the sky" of about 3-feet square. Well, seems one of the girls has figured out "hey, there's a hole!" and wants to flit and try to fly...freaking me OUT!

They are 7 weeks old...should I clip their flight wings? I'm by myself and am scared to death to attempt this but I'd rather do it than risk one of them taking off.

Where can I 'learn' to do this?? Help, please, and thank you ahead of time!

You really need 2 ppl-- one to hold chickie & one to cut. I would be scared to do it by myself so I made my son hold the hens while I cut. Nothing to it, really. Just be sure you have sharp scissors. Takes about 20 seconds per hen. I only cut one wing. Look for a video on YouTube -- you'll see how easy it is. I have some pullets that are about 9-12 weeks old & I cut their wings too!

Sharp and heavy scissors. Cut both wings. Likely to see bleeding when cutting at 7 weeks. Bleeding will not be life threatening.

Thanks for the reply....that's what I was thinking...that clipping them at 7 weeks is a bit too early. Would you recommend I try to wait a bit longer???
