Before the cold spell we had, I put Vaseline on my Cochin Bantam's comb (see picture to the side

).
I believe the shiny/oily Vaseline that I accidentally got on his head feathers was just too tempting to his two hens.
He now has some missing and broken feathers

How can I help him grow these back, and stop the girls from making a habit of pecking him!

Well, unless you're going to force a molt, the broken/damaged feathers have to be plucked out. Then you can paint his bare spots with somthing that will stain the skin dark--we use blue-kote so the hens won't be attracted.

You can give him a little handful of purina Kitten chow in his feed to help the feathers come in faster. (High Protein)

I am going through my birds this weekend to decide who might be ready to go to a April show....not fun.
