Their 2nd brooder is too small (6 chicks) and the coop is ready, but the laundry room is about 70 degrees and it is getting into the 90's during the day and mid to high 60's at night. They are fine without the heat lamp, but will they be OK in the 90's? I've had them in the run a couple of times and I can provide shade. We've had some rain, so it is "muggy" as well. We cut a window on the long part of the coop to provide more air. Should we move them and hope for the best? I'm going to try to put up a nipple water supply for them, but I have a large water (3 1/2 gal) container in the meantime. So, do you think they will be OK? No more rain in the coming week.....just heat!

First, they can leave your laundry room. That's for certain. Your weather is plenty warm, in fact, so warm that they'll need some time to acclimate to it. Don't rush this. If you can "pen" them in the shade, deep, dark shade for a few days, it will help. Take your time. The dangerous time is the mid afternoon. It would be best to check on them often, if you can, that first day or two. Be sure they're handling the heat OK.

Best wishes for their transition.

With temps like that I would have them outside ...

My 3 week old chicks outside in late Jan 2014 with temps in
the 50's + ......

They will huddle to keep warm .....

They've been outside a few times, once in the 1st brooder, then we carried them out in a laundry basket to the run. I went inside for a while and when I came out, they were lined up along the edge of the coop in the last bit of shade. I went in and got a small quilt and hung it over the end of the run to give them more shade, but decided it was time to take them back in 30 min later. This time they a quite a bit bigger and they can go in the coop, but I will have shade for them in the run. We bought our coop and run online and only intended to have 3 to 4 chicks, but some kid at TSC convinced us that we'd probably lose a few and to buy extra. So with 6 healthy chicks, we may eventually have to add on! We have two more days of "possible" rain showers....then the heat. Guess I'll just bite the bullet and get them out! They just have a worry-wart Mom!
