Need to separate male ducks from chickens????

I have three female Welsh Harlequin ducks and four chickens at the present that are together all the time, except at night. Am wanting to get a pair of Black Swedish Ducks in the spring and want to know if I have to keep them separated from the chickens? I believe I saw on BYC that a male duck will try to mate with a chicken and it will kill the chicken. Is that correct? If I have to keep them separate I guess I'll need to build them their own house and run???? Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks.

It happens occasionally but if they have females around it's unlikely he'll try to breed her.

Ive hear its not a problem as long as the drake has enough duck hens. I put my rouen drake my khaki drake, my two khaki hens, and my rouen hen in with my moms 40 something RIR pullets and he could have cared less about them.

Yes, it can happen. I have a very aggressive white crested male that is separated from the chickens. He will murder them if not supervised. He has his own living quarters.

It depends entirely upon the drake. In my experience most will not breed the chickens as long as there are enough duck hens. Some however will try to breed everything including tree stumps.
