Need to Vent - Coyote

The problem wasn't the range. It's what I have as a backstop - which was the entrance to my driveway - I used to shoot competitively and I will never take a shot unless certain that it will hit the target and won't hit some poor sap walking by if I miss the target. If the coyote had been the other way wandering into my back 40 I wouldn't have hesitated in taking the shot. Recently in the public woods near us a hunter shot a deer and a stray pellet struck a hiker and killed her.

Called me old fashioned but I'd rather let the coyote go than face manslaughter charges!

OMG!!! I am so worried when I hear people shooting near us...I kind of cringe. It's amazing this sort of thing doesn't happen more often...or maybe we just don't hear about it. When we shoot, we always make sure there is no way the bullet can continue on, usually by the lay of the land. That or make darn sure you are hitting what you are aiming at! LOL We live on 8 acres at the back of a gated subdivision, but we have some woods and pasture between us and another road that cattle graze on. We were out at 2:00pm one day working on the kids tree fort, and heard a ruckus coming from that pasture. My husband said they sounded like coyotes, so I went down and saw two coyotes hanging out in broad daylight in the middle of that pasture. I got a shot off at one and think I got it...but next time I have a gun that will drop a coyote instead of wondering when they dark off like a giant bee stung them. The other hung around wondering what happened...got another shot off, but it was moving, so I missed.

Nasty critters, they are!!!
