The stuff in your photos needs to be redone and then sealed. Not sure why the heck they didn't at least paint that stuff so they had a minimal moisture barrier.

I have that same panel siding, it's treated so no need to paint. The wood trim however, untreated... that's uncool and you're right needs something before it molds....The stuff in your photos needs to be redone and then sealed. Yeah I mean the trim. The siding looks fine.I have that same panel siding, it's treated so no need to paint. The wood trim however, untreated... that's uncool and you're right needs something before it molds....
Ours is being built as we speak to the tune of about yours. Nothing on the outside needed to be done. The inside was all on us. This is our second dance with the Amish. They do not warranty theirs either.I know I can do all of the repairs and stuff myself, trust me I already have all the stuff listed I need to go grab in the event they won't fix it. It's more that I already nearly paid 3 grand for this coop and it's been about a month of being outside or in use.. heh.
I just want to see what they'll choose to do, and I wasn't told to seal any of the exposed wood so that's sort of on me but .. if it were a job I had done or built I would have offered sealing the wood or at least telling the person hey you need to seal this. I got a contractor as I don't have the tools and knowledge of building myself (or space, it was mostly a space thing and lack of anywhere to store the lumber as I worked, I'll be building my own next time after we move and figuring it out as I go).
Small claims court suits don't take much as it's your word against theirs and you have the receipt and pictures, plus by that point, you'd have receipts of what you spent to get it up to par again. It's for a municipal type judge to determine if you've gotten ripped off or not.Oh this stuff was on the outside where it's having issues. I wish they had said something about needing to seal the wood or what not. I'd have paid the extra to get it fully sealed before it was placed on the coop. It'll be a little more of a pain to seal it now.
I hope they fix it. Like I could have gotten one of the locals to throw something together for 1k or so and it woulda been sturdy enough. But we wanted to spend the extra to look nice so whenever we sell the house or move it'll look nice for the next person (cause like heck I'm moving it haha).
I'm not sure if I'd have a leg to stand on to take them to court. There wasn't an agreement that the work would be repaired should issues come up within x time. I did have a contractor offer a contract like that .. but they were wishy washy in contacting me so I didn't go with them.
Oh man though.. if we had Amish around here that could have built it. I would have 100% paid the extra to get them for sure. I found a few sites that claim Amish built coops that get shipped but they were a bit small where we have one of the bigger breeds of chickens![]()
Oh that makes sense. I'd rather they just fix it cause it doesn't seem like a hard issue to fix. But I'll look into this if they don't. I was waiting a few months to leave a review (I know small businesses like theirs can use the good feedback) but now I'm glad I waited till I see what happens.Small claims court suits don't take much as it's your word against theirs and you have the receipt and pictures, plus by that point, you'd have receipts of what you spent to get it up to par again. That company will find out they're being sued, and have the chance to rectify this before the court date so it could be canceled.
You could go a step further and ask for other carpenters to give you statements about the work done. It's not like malpractice where doctors don't want to rat on other doctors.
Perfect and that's how I'd phrase the first sentence. "I was going to leave you a stellar review, but ...."Oh that makes sense.
