Thanks for your info too. There was nothing harmless looking about what I saw. Those times it looked over it's shoulder told me a lot. That lean like head and faint markings on the head reminded me of a wolverine. Yea what I've read today they are very bad news. I even checked about some traps for them.

I'll tell you this:if someone told me a year ago before I joined BYC there were fishers here I would have thought they were crazy. It so happens a person on BYC living in western NC said they were in her area. It was a long ways from me but I filed that info in my mind.

My mom's side of the family are hunters. Too bad I didn't see them much as I grew up so I could learn more. About the only hunting I've done was coon hunting a long time ago. Was supposed to go rattle snake hunting here one time but a migraine canceled that out.

While I wouldn't mess with a cornered fisher, I doubt you have much to worry about them attacking and killing you unless you are a porcupine. Fishers are one of the few predators on porcupines and one of the reasons they are being reintroduced to their former range as a control. Fortunately they are solitary animals and rare--consider yourself lucky just to see one.

Does anyone else recall 10-15? years ago watching this old PBS show Wild America with Marty Stouffer where his little family rescued some baby Fishers to raise (and later release)? The antics were very entertaining, especially the time where they got into the cupboads and made a mess, lol.
