I'm sorry to hear that.

Most of the auctions I go to are like that, too. I always examine anything well before buying, quarantine and then think of it as saving an animal if I purchase something. I know most will live a much better life with me than they ever have before. Mind you, some people DO care about their birds and you cant tell, but most...

Katy,
I hope you don't think I was knocking any livestock farmers out there. I realize that livestock in general are not raised as pets. I was merely stating that livestock auctions are for livestock. They are not pet stores! If you can't stomach the farm life of animals, then don't go to them. They are how they are! I don't like them, so I don't go!

I am sorry I think I got everyone on the wrong track. This sale was to help cover expenses for a School. I think we all know the difference between livestock and pets. I am sorry I started this.

I know nothing about baby goats and them sucking on your fingers. IMO they were so little I didn't think they were old enough to leave their mommies.

They were very skinny, maybe they are suppose to be that way. What do I know. That’s all I meant, sorry about given you the wrong opinion.

My husband trains race horses, it is a business, I get attached and he has to sell them or gets rid of them because they are not good enough to race. I hate it but that is his business an I know I should not get attached but I did.

I no longer go to the barn LOL and I couldn’t tell you the names of the horses he’s had anymore. So lets get back on track and forget this post. You all have a good day.

I don't even know that much about chickens. I know a lot more now that I found BYC. Good Day. Come to think of it, I don't that much about anything. Now I'm going to go and cry.

You weren't wrong, Ginger. Those are very difficult places to go for those of us who are tender hearted. And the animals probably were not getting the consideration we would give them.

I'm glad that you posted, it reminded me to stick with places which aren't depressing!

Katy "I think everyone should be able to have whatever animal they chose to as a pet, but those who chose to raise animals as a source of income should also be allowed that right."

I agee completely with this.

Rather recently, I've started looking at my life and considering a more self-dependant life style. I don't think I could ever slaughter a cow for meat unless I had to. But I have processed chickens before. It wasn't an enjoyable exprience but I could do it again if I had to. But since having done this. I have a greater appreciation for where my meat comes from.

I'm a steak girl. I don't think I could ever really be a vegetarian. But a lot of people in this world no longer realize where exactly their food comes from and what has to happen to get it to their table. For someone who hasn't experienced this before, going to an auction of this nature can be jarring and emotional. I have experienced this too and been sad for the animals. But because I've chosen to eat meat, when I have to face this part of our society, I realize that it is necessary. Even if you don't eat meat, the whole world isn't going to make the same decision, so it will still go on.

I liken it to a doctor having to detach himself from his patients. Doctors can face death on a daily basis but death is a natural occurance that can't be avoided.

I still love animals and my chickens. I name the ones I intend to keep for eggs. But I never name the ones for meat. I do agree that the way some animals are treated before slaughter is cruel and I would like to see all meat animals treated humanely. But unless the government steps in, that's not necessarily going to happen.

If it upsets you enough that you want to make a change, but you don't want to stop eatting meat, there are places that you can get meat that do treat their animals humanely. It's just a matter of educating yourself about your choices before you make them.

I'm sorry this upset you. Animal abuse is difficult to stand.
