Needing some thoughts on "bad eggs" (people, in this case)

I stored a vehicle for a so-called friend once. It was only supposed to be for a few weeks. Three years later it still occupied my carport and they got really huffy every time I requested it be moved. I finally contacted the police about it and they stated I could sell it as scrap metal to reimburse me for the storage of the car and even take these people to civil court to ask for more money for storage fees.

I informed these people of this fact and they had it moved that week. I drove to work one night shortly after that and could feel there was something wrong with my van and the way it drove. I finally discovered someone had loosened the all the lug nuts on one tire until they were almost completely off the threads. I can't prove it but I suspect the husband of doing this.

These things are always tricky but, once they happen they turn into life lessons.

Agree with the others. Call the police and ask them to check the VINs.

Being in possession of stolen property can get you into hot water, whether you knew it was stolen or not.

If you call them and tell them that their reaction freaked you out and got you wondering, you help them recover stolen goods, then maybe you won't get in trouble for having them in the first place.

If they run the plates and they aren't stolen... maybe some kind of civil matter?... then send out the certified letter and stick to it. Might include that the police are already aware of the situation, you know the cars aren't stolen, but you still don't want them on your property.

Maybe?
