Neighbor Dogs....again....UPDATE AT END OF THREAD!

All a waste of time especially dealing with AC.
SSS
Over and done with. When someone loses enough animals they'll eventually stop owning them.

While we're on the subject of keeping animals on one's property, which is a good rule, why is it that so many people think cats are exempted from that rule?
A neighbors cat hunts my property almost daily, killing rabbits, lizards, songbirds.
I guess it's time for me to follow my own advice -SSS

I, like you, do not like the thought of shooting a dog because I have a dog myself and know how much love they give. I would try and catch him, chain him up in your yard and wait for the neighbor. Once they are home and see their dog tied up in your yard, it will be game on. Because once they try and come over to untie him, you have them locked up for trespassing.
Of course, it will probably get nasty between you two, but hey, if you can't shoot the dog then maybe it's worth dealing with it.
Now if it were a cat..... Oh boy, it would be good time. The dog and I killed our neighbors 10 cats.... and threw them back in his porch.

It is up to each of us to keep our birds as safe as we can.

Now this dogs problem belongs to the owners NOT YOU. If you need to shoot this dog to keep your kids and animals safe then the blame lies with them. Sad yes, but also necessary.

If you can give the dog a butt full of buck shot and not kill it then do so. If you have to kill it then do what you need to do, have a good cry and then move on.

The only other option is chain link all around.

You have my sympathy

I would call the AC back and demand to speak to a supervisor. They way that officer treated you was uncalled for. You would think you were the criminal not the victim

. I would definately file a complaint against this officer; but then again I tend to riled up when it comes to children. The dog could have seriously hurt your little one (Pit bulls are not the only breed to kill humans), and she basically blew off your concerns. Grrr... If the Supervisor doesn't take you seriously then I would start talking to the media.

As for the dog - do as you feel best. You know the neighbor better than we do. If you think the neighbor will retaliate if you shoot the dog, then I would SSS. If not, and you shoot it, then call AC get a report and let them be fined. If you are not comfortable or do not what to shoot the dog, then trap it and take it to a rescue or animal shelter.

Whatever you choose I hope the problem is resolved once and for all

That is where you take her back to court for technically ignoring a court order--and this time make sure the order is that she keep ANY dogs up, not just the current ones. Better yet, an order forbidding her to possess dogs.

I agree that electric works, but I dont agree with the logic. Why should I have to fork out more cash just to keep someone else's stupid mutt off of my property? If they cant control their pets, than buh buy puppy.Afterall, any domestic animal running wild out of control is "feral". I invest too much time and money into my livestock to have some mutt destroy it. I would expect the same if it was my dog causing problems somewhere else. It is the owners responsability to control their dog, not mine. I control my animals by the use of tie outs, pens, and training. I control other peoples animals by a steady rest and good trigger control.

You're not just keeping someone's pets off your property, you are keeping predators off your property--including the wild ones, such as raccoons, skunk, weasels, coyotes, foxes, etc.

Ummm, DID you ever tell them the dogs were friendly? Hope not, as they are displaying aggression, not friendliness. A child should not have to carry a weapon in his own yard to protect himself from someone else's pet. Nipping at the clothes and jacket are to the dog, nipping at his skin--thank goodness it was his jacket and not his skin that was ripped!

You need to check the city/county ordinances under which AC operates and figure out which animal behaviors carry what type of results--find out exactly what their power is, and their operating procedures. Then call and call and call again. Make a pest of yourself.

I wouldn't be able to shoot a dog, just take the dog to the local shelter and tell them he was in the middle of the road down the street or at the local shops and they will take him in as a stray...it sounds as tho the neighbor won't even bother seeking their dog out and hopefully he will find a new home with more responsible owners, just don't tell the shelter where he was really found or that you know who he belongs to, I bet you won't see him again
