Neighbor killed one of my birds

I do believe he can legally shoot anything on his yard under certain circumstaces. Also a friend had the same problem with his peafowl scratching nieghbors cars. it became a problem so he got rid of them. For some reason they do like to roost on cars. your neighbor can hold you liable for the cars paint job if you complain. Id try to stay in good terms with your neighbors. Having an enemy next door can be a nightmare. Also he doesnt sound very stable or caring about animals with the shoot my dog comment. Good luck

I am sorry about your loss.

I hardly free-ranged for long but when I did the neighbor loved it when the peafowl would visit his yard. He actually wished they would stay in his yard more often. I hope I never have to deal with neighbors complaining.

I know this is an older post but I would have just took the compensation he offered and try to continue to be a great neighbor. The neighbor was totally in his rights to take him down. He doesnt sound like hes a wank to me. I feel he said what he did about the dog to basically tell you if his dog killed your birds you have permission to protect your flock. Kinda tit for tat deal. plus you did say his son was the shooter/poster.Plus he could have called bandbaustin out on his scratched vehicle...But he didnt. Just a mans point of view ladies.Dont be hatin.

I met my backyard neighborfor the very first time years ago when I kept chickens. My neighbors dog got in the pen and killed them all. I was very upset because they were my pets as well. He said how do you know it was MY dog in a heavy tone ???!!! At that exact m"oment the dog walks up with one in his mouth.I said oh just a feeling. lol! Seeing this he then said." How much do i owe you? and also tack on more money they were your pets." Trying to be a good neighbor I said, Just give me 30 so I can buy more chicks .We have been great neighbors for 30+ years. Moral of the story;I would ALWAYS want a good neighbor versus a bad one.

Oh yeah ... a neighbor's peacocks can do a large amount of damage in a small amount of time. And the noises they make can be very agitating. They also range further than other domestic birds. I know this first hand.

They sure are cool birds, but there is probably a reason peacocks are more traditionally found on the grounds of palaces than any place with "neighbors."

Agreed

In Hawaii we have two kinds of bird classification song and game anything that is not a game bird is a songbird and is illegal to kill peacocks are considered songbirds

I'm sorry for your loss ): there aren't amy neighbors except for ones across the street for me as well and I don't free range my birds as they are still young.

I believe Peacocks are considered gamebirds in MI as well.
