Neighbor threatening to "take out my roosters"

We had the same problem in our rural neighbor though the complainer was a single woman who started complaining the day she moved in. I gave 3 roosters to her immediate neighbor after she threatened to call the sheriff on his at large dog. An ancient sheperd who sleeps under a bush in his driveway. She griped at the downhill neighbor for a sagging fence, he moved his entire goat herd to that side of the property.

If I lived near there, I'd say invite me over for a few days as your 'boyfriend' (I'd bring a book or two to read, currently tryin' to get through Fahrenheit 451 but it's a difficult read compared to the movie, and I'd've split the cost of meals). I'm a *big*, ugly, stinky, biker (who happens to raise chickens and has been for 20+ years), and I *love* confrontational people who are nothing but tyrants and blowhards...after I'm through with them, they usually keep to themselves afterward and stop bothering folks. <BEG> heh heh heh

...but since I don't live anywhere near there, do like the others have said, let the law know about that jerk and his threats. Later, kick yourself in the butt and teach yourself to stand up to jerks like him! You're gonna get walked all over the rest of your days if you keep up the way it is now and I sure do hate to see people do that to themselves. I'm the kind who has always, since I was a little kid, stuck up for the 'little guy' or the one getting picked on or those who *can't* stick up for themselves well enough to make a difference even though they might have tried, etc, but it sure does get frustrating 'helping' when those you try to 'help' refuse to learn to at least *try* to help themselves, even if just a little bit one way or another.

well i move down there. first i like independent women. second i would love to be on a farm, third i like a good challenge. fourth i think im selling my spot because i moved to the country and the city folks came and now they are changing all the ordinances. what the heck i pay over 3600,00 in taxes each year and their going to tell me what to do. not going to happen i just move.

Word of advice be careful and on guard.
I used to live next to a neighbor when I was 12-16, who hated the fact that we had 6 dogs, legally licensed with the town, up to date on shots, well behaved, fenced to our property,...They used to come over all the time, there kid used to play with the dogs, and they kept to themselves.
Then one day they gave us hell, and made me a terrified little girl.
They threw poisoned meatballs into the yard, spied on me (I was home alone during the day while mom was at work) with cameras and binoculars, snuck along our property line...
They were great at first, and then all of a sudden (Just like you) they had a slight issue. Then over the years things like the above started to happen, the police were always called on us, and every day i was a shivering wreak hiding in the living room with a hand made spear Lol in case they decided to break in. (Paranoia of a teen, looking back I dont think they would have)
They were very pleasant when they got there way, but when we refused to just "Get rid" of our dogs and instead keep them quiet and try to be accommodating, that's when things started.
Exact same kind of man, exact same kind of situation (Only with different animals) and it was not until we moved that we ever got peace. Now I have my chickens and awesome neighbors who love our birds and the dogs.
I just hope this guy wont go to extremes to get his way like my old neighbor did :( keep your guard up just to be safe!!
and best of luck to you!!

Kathryn, following your thread with interest, hope everything works out soon and you are able to enjoy your property they way any responsible property owner should. Best of luck with it and I hope you'll continue to keep us posted.

what the heck, he said he came to the country for peace. is he high, he needs to wake up and realize it is the country where animals dwell and people farm and raise livestock. make sure to be very cautious and aware. i would suggest that you invest in keeping a shotgun for your protection, stand your ground and practice with your words to be more confident

That seems like a good idea. May I add let him see you practicing with the shotgun in your backyard, if it's legal to do so in your community, a little target practice is a fun activity anyways.

Thank you for all the continued support!! I have been doing a lot of practicing standing up for myself in my head since this started. And yesterday I got to try it out.

The "Man" came over to talk to me at the dang fence line again. Wanted it know if I had thought anymore about getting rid of the roosters and if I am going to mow my eye sore of a field. He even said he would come over and mow it. Seriously my fields look so nice this year, long lush grass. I stayed calm (no crying) and told him that it was none of his business what I do over here. That didn't go over very well. So..... Apparently he is going to call the county about the field and the local humane society about coming to pick up the noise makers. After I got over being angry about what he said, I decided that this could be a good thing. The humane society (if they even show up) will not do anything. All my dogs are licensed and have up to date shots if they decide to check them out. My horses are very well cared for. If they show up after next week they can even check out the new foal that should be here by then. My chickens are healthy and happy. I have been doing a remodel on the coop for the last few days, so there is even a fresh coat of paint inside. And the dang thing is so clean it shines!!
My field is mostly weed free, and very well kept. I have a feeling that he is going to be laughed at. I know I am laughing.

I was also kind of surprised that he had the gumption to talk to me when I had my friend over helping me out. My friend is a big guy with dreadlocks down to his waist and many many tattoos. And his big Rhodesian ridge back.

We have started locking the gate at the end of the driveway. I hate doing this because my roommate comes home very late (3am) from work and has to stop in the dark and lock and unlock it. Game cameras are still up. And the hot wire is hot.

I am so sorry that I haven't been replying all that often! I will try to do better. I just have so much going on. Coop remodel. Garden planting, weeding ect. and I am finishing building a coyote proof pen for the sheep. The pen is 30x16 connected to the haymow. Lots and lots of work. But its great work!! The sheep should be delivered next week, so so excited!!!! Oh and I somehow have to clean my house

I do own a shot gun. He has seen me shoot a deer on my property last fall. And I also killed a coyote this spring, it was trying to get my dogs.
