Neighborhood drama - help?

Protect you and yours first. From a recent call to SS, they told me they can do nothing unless someone sees something bad happen. Im worried about my new nephew, they wont check on him. (of course, from my own experiences as a child with them, my social worker told me to my face that the bruises and bumps from my fathers last tirade with a full soup can were 'just bumps and bruises, not abuse' ) Very little faith in the system. The police can do a welfare check, but sometimes put that off also. I would give her all the necessary numbers she can use to get herself help and remind her that she needs to think of the babys safety, if not her own. The mother instinct is strong in some people, unfortunetly not all. Hopefully she will protect the baby.

My aunt is mentally ill, but was a good mother to my neice until she had a massive nervous breakdown caused by my uncle. She had a good mothering instinct and kept that baby cared for and clean. I have seen people with all their brains do poorly at mothering.
