Neighbor's Dog Jumped his invisable fence......

I use Invisible Fencing with my GSDs too, and it does work. They just need to be properly trained and sometimes, if you have a dog/puppy that especially hard to train, you have to go a step further for a short while until they are trained.

First of all, you SURE that the dog was the culprit? I'm sure you have enough sense that you wouldn't tell the neighbors unless you were were absolutely sure, but maybe you can go another route? Because even if it wasn't the culprit, I personally would want to be told my dog jumped the Invisible Fence so I could remedy the situation. I go absolutely nuts about keeping my dogs contained, and it does work with with invisible fencing, you just have to train the dogs and be consistent.

If your neighbors are serious about keeping their dogs contained (and believe me, the system isn't cheap if they're not using a generic form of Invisible Fence, so they must have some motivation), I'd go that route, since you have no proof. Just start out by telling them that you saw their dog jump the invisible fence and you thought they would want to know. Tell them you talked to someone else who had Invisible Fencing and they made some suggestions:

My adult GSDs did very well with the system and didn't breach it. But I did have a problem once with one puppy. He'd run right though it. I had to put two collars on him for a while, and shave his neck. Make sure the collar is on pretty snug, but check for skin irritations. It didn't last very long, and I was able to return the collar (it took about a month). But now all of them are well contained.

And yes, some people don't realize you have to get batteries every three months. For this one puppy, I had to get batteries every TWO months because he kept challenging the fence, which drains the battery. But after a while it worked, and now I only get batteries every 3 months again.

Also, they need to test the fence periodically to see if it's working. Just take a collar (off the dog) and test the fence to see if it beeps. If it's not beeping, something's wrong.

Also, Invisible Fencing has the capability of varying the intensity of the shock. They may need to change the intensity on that collar to make it stronger.

I'm sorry your neighbor's dog isn't being contained. It's stressing when that happens. Hopefully, your neighbor will work to keep his/her dogs contained.
