Neighbor's dog keeps nosing around...

Why must you go to extra expense keeping YOUR NEIGHBORS dog on YOUR NEIGHBORS yard? The next time the dog is over , a loud BOOM is in order, whether it be a gun or firecracker. When the neighbor comes to investigate the noise, say, "Darn , missed again." They'll take the hint.

How about you tarp the side of the run that he frequents, then install one of those hose scarecrows? It's motion activated and goes off to shoot water at the offender.

I'd move the pen away from their yard and FIND a way to fence the area. Good fences make good neighbors..... and keep you from killing the bad ones.

As for myself.. I put up a fence in my back yard to keep MY animals IN... thats my ONLY responsibility...
Its the neighbors responsibility to keep her dogs on HER property.

I wouldnt ask the neighbor again... just grab the dog next time its in your yard and take it for a ride to the shelter... tell them its a stray and it was in the process of trying to kill your livestock/pets.

You are right it is not her responsibility to keep her neighbor's dog at his home.

However, a dead chicken is still a dead chicken. As I stated earlier even if this dog was "cured" by whatever method ya'll want to use. Another dog is there to take his place. And if her chickens are outside the protection of a fence, they are basicly unprotected. She can and will defend her chickens from the dogs she can identify, and see, but what about the dog she doesn't see?

And on top of it all, the chickens are only 2' within the borders of her property. As stated earlier the dog doesn't even have to enter her property to cause damage to the chickens. He can stand on his own ground and worry'em to death. Now what exactly do you do about that. The only option is to move the chickens to a more central location on her property, adding reinforcement to her pen/yard. She evidently has a fence because she mentiones her dogs being kept within th confines of a fence.

I like the electric fence idea, I have a German Shepered, last summer he was 1... He's only loose outside when I'm with him but I was distracked, kids ect.
He decided to chase nieghbours cows

Since he's always with me, he's never seen an electric fence, well he wraped himself up so bad. Who knows how many shocks he got, before the fencer came loose

Thank god, the nieghbours were gone out, my hubby was home... Fencer fixed, dog never gone down there again, never told the nieghbours

Was so embrassed! But it sure taught the dog!! and me, because he sure was watched after that!
Shock the hell out've him, although you really shouldn't have to spend money to keep out the dog..

I was really lucky, my nieghbours had this fence for their cows. If it wasn't for this fence, I betcha he would be gone! I would never let my dog chase someones livestock! and if not for electric fence, he would've spent his lifetime, trying to strike twice

Good luck, I think a firm talk is in order with nieghbours, you can't let a dog loose. Unless you own from here, to there!

As said earlier you need to think big picture with these things sure shoot the neighbors dog butt what about the raccoons coyotees or even possums that we read kill flocks who you gonna shoot and can you shoot and trap each one to me a fencer is cheap insurance and I dont need to be there ... like it or not we need good neighbors and a fence ensures that PLUSSSSSSSSS it is a hoot to watch that dog nose into the fence for the first time almost as fun as the ole bug zapper... Again to me alot of the hard massacres we here of here are preventable by a couple strands hotwire etc...
