Neighbors Dog Massacred My flock

I'm still pretty devastated over this still. I'm super sad this morning looking out to the coop/run and it's empty. They were my buddies and came running when I called.
I might get rid of the auto door for the coop now.
I just can't get the images out of my head either.

I can't imagine how hard it must be for you. Just know I'm always here if you want to PM me to talk :hugs

I appreciate that. I have had a lot of these chickens for 3yrs. I raised them from chicks. My Rooster just turned 1yr! It's just so frustrating.

My husband said "All that time, Food and work put into them. Then to be killed for "fun" by a dog!"
We always worried about wildlife and aerial predators.
But the neighbors hunting dog 😭🤬
Yes, that is very true, I know the sentiment well, as I have had goats killed or mauled to the point of having to be put down by neighbors dogs. Unfortunately just be glad that the neighbor is willing to pay something for the loss. Most times folks aren’t likely to compensate anything. Again unfortunately being a farmer with livestock I understand the feeling of loosing that time money and effort when something like this happens. It’s a reality that we face and part of it. We just have to try to prevent what we can and enjoy good moments and not be discouraged when the bad happens.

I lost 14 adult Chickens today.
I'm so devastated I don't even know where to begin.
We have a security camera and at 5:30 this morning a Neighbor's Dog, a Hunting Pointer, Rammed the fenced Run over and over until he got a small opening (still no clue how it fit through) and got into the run and Killed 13 hens and my 1yr old Cuckoo Maran Rooster.

We made a police report. When he saw the cops at our house he came over and admitted it plus we showed the video. He said let him know how much and he will pay.

But where do I even begin!? This was so shocking and traumatic.
Do I charge for the repair to the fence also?
How much per chicken? I also had Marans.
Ages from 1yr old to 3yrs old
😭😭😭
I guess I'm looking for advice on how to proceed. 😔
Many hugs. That is devastating! (My own idiot dog killed my 6 chicks a couple of weeks ago....luckily she is cute)

Yes, everything that dog touched and broke goes on the bill!
Then you bill replacement cost: Craig's List has a few run-of-the-mill chickens for 20, hatcheries charge as much or more than $100 for an adult bird!
and there is the loss of eggs.

:hugs:hugs
That really sucks.

Since your neighbor has volunteered to pay for replacement and repair costs, I would be fair with what it costs to replace your chickens and replace your coop/run with hardware cloth. My Daddy had a lab for duck hunting when we were kids. The dog was kept in a run and only out when it was walked or training. I would ask your neighbor to build a run for his dog, when the dog will be outside with out the owner. He needs to make sure the fence is high enough that the dog can't jump over it or climb it.
I agree with the sentiment, but would only request the amount to repair to how it was.
