Yep...the mishmash of countries formerly known as Yugoslavia, anyway. These dogs are the pride of the region...they even put their image on a coin in Macedonia..

Check it out..

Pretty cool, huh?!

There's another dog called a Caucasian Ovcharka. They're from the region to the east of the Black Sea, and look almost identical to Sarpies. We sooooooo want a female to breed with Ivan. I can just see a yard full of little "Sarplacharka" babies...

I once witnessed this particular BC hit a male stray her size at a dead run and run right over top of him.. I heard the collision, like a sickening thud kind of a sound. Rolled him down a hill about three times, circled, tore him up one side and down the other and chased him for several hundred feet as he ran away going "yipe yipe yipe!" with his tail firmly tucked between his legs. She's certainly no pushover....extremely dog aggressive and not at all shy about going after one, regardless of their size.

That's her biggest problem, actually.. Not so fun when she decides to go after the dogs in the kitchen from the living room, across the gate we have seperating them all.. We've had her three or four years now, and they've yet to work it out.

What's funny is that whenever she gets a cut or scratch on her head, it grows back a few white hairs instead of black.. If you look closely, you'll see three or four white hairs every inch or so on her noggin.. They're all over, and they're all from fights.. This dog killed a full grown coon once -- a big coon -- and came away with nary a scratch.

This particular BC happens to actually a giant tub of lard...thyroid condition. Seriously, she's on .6mg of Soloxine 2x/day.

Thing is, there would have been several different fights going on if the two intruders, plus the BC, plus the LGD got all mixed up. The LGD hates the BC and the feeling is mutual..they fight through the fence pretty routinely.

If I had to guess at an overall outcome, I'd say Ivan would be the only one left alive when it was all said and done..

As for quick and nimble....for a big dog, Ivan's frighteningly fast. When he and the BC fight through the fence, his head and mouth are like a blur.. She always walks away snorting and sneezing where he nips her nose and muzzle through the fence, yet he never seems to have that problem..
