Neighbors hate rooster! Pinellas Co. Florida

I know the thread is old but the problem is getting bigger. Those of us who are fortunate to live in rural (or semi-rural) areas are getting pushed out by the jerks who buy up our land and put 3-acre McMansions on it. And they then complain about the roosters crowing and the donkeys braying and the cows mooing.

Well if they complain then get MORE roosters and move them closer to their houses, if they don't like the horse poop in front of their houses (on the public roadway) then make sure to save up for when you go by. Let them know that THEY are the annoyance and in the wrong place NOT our livestock!!

Would love to hear an update from the original poster. Did you keep the rooster??

This sounds like a dumb question, but how do I find out if my property is zoned farmland or not? I only have chickens and ducks that are like farm animals, not large animals, but I'd hate to find out that we have to move b/c someone tells me that I can't have my poultry here.

I know this is an old post but I found it very helpful. I am getting 10 pullets on May 16th. I am well aware that one or more could turn out to be a mistake. I have a neighbor that would LOVE to bang on my door and complain. She has complained about my cats on her property, them peeing in her garden, catching birds on her property, our dusk to dawn light ended in such a fight that after the 6th time of them complaing and us trying to be nice and shielding it, moving it, it ended in a confrontation on my front lawn. The man would not leave and shoving followed. Next thing we know the police are at our door! Poor baby next door had is Oaklies in his pocket and claimed my DH broke them after he pushed the man to get him out of HIS face on OUR property!

I called my township building to prepare myself in case this happens. I know I am zoned agricultural so I can have chickens. I asked if there was a rule of how many. She said no. I asked how far from the neighbors, she said 5 feet from property line so I am more than that. I never asked if I could keep a rooster. I really asked if I could have chickens I think? If it were no roosters don't you think she would have told me?

i have been having problems too. I live where I can have chickens and the neighbor took to hosing down my birds when they crowed, soaking the birds and ruining my feed. We had some shouting matches over it, then I told him it will get a LOT worse before it gets better, and hung some "Warning, High Voltage" signs on the outside of the chicken enclosure. The hosing and yelling stopped. He still hates me, but I could care less. In seven years of living there he doesn't even know my name, so I am not too worried about what he thinks.

If my neighbor complained about my rooster's crowing, I would get so many roosters that it would drive them out of their minds. If they harmed my animals, I would either call the police or retaliate depending on what was done. That's just me. Anyone who knows me knows that I am very protective of what is mine and I don't let people mess with my stuff or my rights. I am not "nice enough" to let people take away rights that are mine.

Well I'm from the "big" city, and I moved to the "little" country. Tehe! But....I knew when I did that I was going to hear roosters crow, dogs barking, owls hooting, etc., I wouldn't get rid of my rooster, unless that was MY personal choice because I Wanted TO. When I started chicks and roos last year, they were free ranging (until I met the predators). But I have one neighbor that complained about my rooster crowing. Know what I said, too freakin bad. I hear the chihuahua's down the road barking their butts off all darn night (she has about 20). I hear the dogs across the street barking at everyone all day and night. Even at me if I try to take a walk. I put up with all that crap. Now I am going to have even more than one roo because I am going into purebreds to raise etc., so phooey on her. She is from here actually, so she should be the understanding one. I did finally have to coop up my roos and hens as she told my son she was going to kill them for getting into her flower beds. I didnt' want her to kill them, but I also respected her "flower beds" and "her yard". Now she has to respect my Cockadoodledoo every morning, oh and my dogs barking too. Tehe~ Don't get rid of the rooster for anybody except yourself.

If Your zoning allowes for farm animals, Keep the rooster, that's the best part of having chicken(I think) is hearing the roosters crow. I Keep the stereo playing all night because of the barking dogs. If she complains to much ask her if she would like you to make her a cd of your rooster crowing and she can make you one of her dogs barking, fair exchange.

i had a neighbor that complained about the same thing, except i just got another rooster instead, he stopped complaining because every time he said something i would get another rooster.
so ive tamed him now.
