Enid, OK!
So a month or ago my roo started crowing. Cute at first. But then he got louder. Still not bad as he wasn't as loud as the dogs in the neighborhood but recently he has started to crow all night long. We have very unpleasant and frankly; trashy neighbors. They are already the worst neighbors I have ever had and I don't want things to get worse. I have already had them several times in their front lawns with their friends or other neighbors talking very loudly when they knew I could hear, about how they hate my rooster and how trashy I am for keeping lowly farm animals in city limits. Shame, shame on me. Never mind this is a country state where everyone used to own farm animals. Lets defiantly ignore the fact that each and every person for blocks around us lets their dogs out nightly. Lets them bark endlessly all day and night and that they are several times louder. *sigh* Getting away from myself I know but I had to get that out. So frustrating living here.. So that's the story. Now the part I need help with is I need to get rid of my roo. But I don't want to put him up for auction on here. Am I still able to get rid of him locally on this site? I'd also like help to identify what breed he is. I bought him from ideal poultry as a buff orp but of the fifteen chicks I ordered from them; not one was a buff orp. I got all the others identified (rir, nhr, cq and br) but no one has ever been able to tell me what the roo is. I have no pics yet but will ask a friend with a camera to come over and help me download several for you to help identify. I've really never seen a picture of a roo like the one I have. He does have some battle scars from cannibalistic rir's but is their anyone in the Enid OK area that would like this very sweet roo? If you have any questions or comments or anything like that, just let me know. Thanks for reading this, I know I tend to ramble. lol

Are the windows in the coop allowing light in at night? Maybe try covering them with black plastic at dusk and uncovering when it is "acceptable" to crow in the a.m. SO far my roo only crows during the day, but I know I would try this before I got rid of "a very sweet roo".
Feel free to "ramble" all you want. That's what we are here for

It just isn't right that a dog can bark all hours day or night, but let a rooster crow and everyone has a cow about it. Personally I love to hear a rooster crow, but wish my neighbors dog would go mute

Good luck, and try the dark window coverings before you get rid of your roo.

Are "his" hens right with him? My roo crows obnoxiously & endlessly only when one of the hens has strayed. How he knows, I'll never figure out! He also seems to knoew exactly when that wandering hen has come strolling back. Finally! silence, peace & quiet.

I know the feeling I am waiting for the pound to come out and check if my coop is the right distance from the other houses just because I got a rooster to help calm down my hens and stop one from acting like a rooster people suck sometimes we have people who's dogs bark all day and all night I think my little bantam rooster sound sweet compared to that if its allowed keep him and tell the neighbors where to go...IMO

I agree, if you're allowed to keep him, do. IMO if your neighbors get what they want this time, they'll never stop trying. If they have a problem with your rooster the least they could do is show you enough respect to talk to you about it. Ignore them when they talk loudly, or better yet put on headphones and pretend you're listening to music

My neighbor actually came over to see what happened to my rooster because he missed the crowing! I thought that was cool of him. Sadly the roo was an evil nasty beast who happily made a darn tasty potpie.

My little Japanese roos hardly crow and aren't loud at all.

I am getting Buckeyes who supposedly roar like dinosaurs, lookign forward to a roo again.

I like the idea of getting 2 MORE roosters. I am so sick of living in the city, I can't hardly stand it. It's because of people like that. Complain about a rooster when they let their crazy dogs run up and down the fence all day barking barking barking. Atleast MY PET gives me breakfest...
