NEIGHBORS issues!

You have to be careful with the electric fencing. In our township, it's illegal to have it. You could use concrete pavers over the spots where the dog is digging. If it's a chain link fence, some well placed metal tent stakes will keep the dog from being able to squeeze under. Or you could try mouse traps. Set them and then cover them with a paper towel. As soon as he touches it, it will spring the trap. It makes a scary noise but won't pinch the dog. I know because I used them on our table surfing dogs! If he's a nervous dog, it should work.

I never heard of electric fencing illegal INSIDE a persons own yard (maybe on the outside of the fence or except maybe some goofy HOA rules. The electric fence thing is the way to go. Its cheap and easy . And if Im betting legal too.

I don't mean the kind of electric fence they use for people or cattle.. I mean the kind that is netting and put up with plastic poles.. . I saw it somewhere on here . some one else is using it also..

Check with your zoning dept and see i there is a leash law. If there is, you can report their dog off leash and at large. They will be fined.

Of course, ALWAYS try to be nice before the boxing gloves. It only gets worse after that.

Don't be too sure of yourself. It (electric fence) is under attact in my town due to some incidents where children got zapped when they trustpassed on land that was protected by electric fence (city people moving out to subdivisions in farm country) The farmers were able to defeat the rule by a slim margin this time but in a year or so they may have the votes as more of the houses are sold. It is almost funny the mind set of some of these newcomers Farms, open land = Parks. They would have a fit if you pastured livestock on their land but think it is fine for their kids to set up to play baseball or any other game in your pasture! Let a couple of kids get zapped and go crying home and they claim you are dangerous and should not be allowed to fence. They lost in court so now they are trying to pass new laws.

We live in a semi-rural area with a hay field that we own and our lawn around it. We own a golden retriever and our neighbors have a st. bernard and a little yippy dog as well and then across the highway a beagle and a bunch of other dogs around us. Our dog gets out from time to time, and wanders but not often and the neighbor dogs cross our yard but they are all bird friendly thus farm. But we've had dogs around that killed birds when they were free ranging and they've been shot and killed when they were chasing and killing birds. It may sound heartless, but there is a livestock law in indiana that says livestock owners have the right to shoot any dog on their property bothering their livestock. But until that dog is inside your fence, in your yard, you can't do much of anything about it, but scare it off and throw the dirt back in the hole. If you tamp it down and pour water over it, it should freeze well and it won't be able to dig in there.

Its a state law in Indiana. We've told them that several times when bringing their dog back to them (this was a different dog). My politeness ended when she cursed at me and slammed her door shut and then punched the wall. I told her I would just let animal control take care of this. They are supposed to go over there first thing next week and talk to them.

Of course I haven't seen the dog since I blew the airhorn at it.

That's ridiculous! I can understand not being able to have it in the city! But the country? Come on! You should loose all their rights when you are on someone else's property without permission!

Im with dumb cluck. Kill themwith kindness always first. No no Goosedragon not the electric wire outside the fence nor the electric wire on top of the fence or just a whole electric fence. Im talking totally inside her property at the bottom of that fence even if not touching said fence. Thats totally all her land 100%! NO border dispute even. And to boot she could even put up no tresspassing and electric fence signs facing toward her neighbor so ALL bases are covered. And all my life I thought No Tresspassing (City or country) means just that. You dont have a leg to stand on if it goes to court.

I had neighbors that used to let their dog run wild...it once came through my field fence and attacked my pot bellied pig. Literally tore it to shreds..I had to destroy the pig. I told the neighbor, he said it was the kids pet and he was sorry. I was new to the neighborhood, so I said I didn't want any trouble but if it happened again, I would take care of it...well later his dogs came over and literally pulled the skin off of my rabbits through the wire fencing..not a good sight..I had to destroy them also. Then I had had my fill so I filled my shotgun and filled his dog. End of problems. Sometimes you can't just be nice. I do try at first though..that's how I was raised.
