It depends on the dog itself and its breed too. I can understand a Jack Russel killing small livestock in a matter of seconds, but I'm not really sure if a Pomeranian would hurt or scare a cow.

Temperment is also a huge deal too...Where I did let my dogs loose in the neighborhood was semi-rural, everyones chickens, goats, horses, cows, etc. were in fenced land.

Ever see the cartoons about elephants and mice?

Have you ever seen a horse rear up and break it's leg because a dog/turkey/rabbit startled it?

Ever have to have a 'dozer come in to bury an 1100lb animal because it couldn't be saved cuz somebody felt fido should be "free" to roam around? All I am going to say on this from here on out.

Yeah, it's fake. A cartoon.

No, but I've seen similar cases. Some horses are more easily spooked than others.

Gah.

wow, you have no sense of the world. THEY ARE ANIMALS, they dont have a sense of boundaries if they haven't been taught this. So does that mean a two year old who walks onto someone elses yard should be shot two since they are trespassing? no it doesn't. Its called being polite.

LOL Wow, just wow.

Failure of owner ; bolded and underlined. Thank you for making my point.

So its called calling animal control. They will come get the dog and the owner will be fined. Maybe this will be a lesson for them. Or they wont get the dog and it will be adopted by someone who will love it. No need for un-needed killing.

And my Arabian mare who I thought was shock proof went down by a Boston terrier who scared the crap out of it and got sepsis despite the vets precautions and had to be put down. Imagine trying to figure out what to do with my companion of 24 years when a simple wooden box wouldn't do.

I may be harsher than most, but I ran out of sympathy a long while back.

so it's ok for them to kill/injure when they have no business being on somebody elses property? Once again, thank you for making my point.

Animal control is 2 hours response time, and they tell us to just shoot it and they'll collect the corpse and fine the owners.

sepsis is an infection to the blood also known as blood poisining, how by your mare being spooked did this happen. I think it was because she was TWENTY FOUR.
