No rooster is needed for eggs. You need a rooster to fertilize eggs if you want chicks. But hens produce eggs all by themselves.

No rooster is needed for hens to lay eggs. Roosters are needed for fertilized eggs. Roosters are great company, and tend to be a stable member of the flock though. I must admit that I have an ilegal rooster here myself, and he is an absolute gentleman to the girls. He has one special lady that he roosts with at night and spends most of his time with, but is the "man" of the coop.

Wrong.... u only need a rooster to have FERTILIZED eggs to hatch new chickens. U can eat all eggs as they only start to grow if set on continuously
