Anyone with suggestions on how to keep them off my property would be greatly appreciated.

Well . . . you took down the previous fence because it was a pieced together eyesore, apparently, and not because it was a fence, which suggests to me that if you build a more aesthetically pleasing fence, there shouldn't be a problem.

If she is eating crow and making inroads towards trying to be a good neighbor, then do yourself a huge favor and try to get along with her. A box of sani-wipes for and a good educational lecture on bio-security can help you save your sanity, and make her your allie. Don't alienate her, I live surrounded by horrible neighbors that do not speak to each other except through law enforcement, and most would not lift a finger to help the other, even in a case of life and death. It is miserable to live this way, and when I lived near a low income housing project in Texas, the people were kinder and more friendly than they are in this wealthy neighborhood in Flagstaff.
Make sure your homeowners insurance covers any potential liability, and try and develop a good relationship with her. She is young, and as such, she may have not had much in the way of home raising and education on how to be a good neighbor, so you have a golden opportunity to teach her how to be one. I wish I had young neighbors that I could teach how to be nice people, but I am stuck with rejects from the "Me" generation that seem bent on making life hard for those around them. Good luck!

, When we bought our house in Fla, it had no fence at all, and we had 2 poodles, so my DH put up a fence explaining to all the neighbors it was to keep our dogs in our yard since we did not want them roaming around the neighborhood. Had great neighbors for the 16 years we lived there, Good Fences, make Good neighbors.

Aren't we all just taking this bio-security thing a bit too far? IMHO germs can be tracked in by your own children playing with other kids at school who may or may not have chickens. Germs or diseases can be brought it by any bird that flies over your yard and drops a poop. I realize that one can eliminate some of this by washing hands. You still have on the same clothes, sit in the same car, same couch...etc.

I agree with what people are saying about being kind and trying to get along. Fences are good too. That being said, if they are not viable options, I would get a couple of no tresspassing signs and put em up on your side of the property line.

My only worry is that with this neighbor, if you start talking biosecurity, she's going to freak out that your birds are carrying the dreaded 'avian flu' or 'west nile' or 'anthrax' or 'whooping cough' or 'rabies' or whatever the scary disease of the day is... (yes, I'm using a bit of hyperbole there) You might then have another problem on your hands...

I'd just be nice and ask her politely that you'll be happy to show her and the kids the chickens when you are home but you would prefer they make sure you are home before coming over.

Think it maybe her perspective on chickens could be in the process of changing? Maybe she doesn't feel the same way as she did when she reported you?

Sounds like it could be a golden opportunity to help educate and gain an ally instead of continuing down the path she had started to take. She is showing interest now in the chickens, could be a first step in changing an attitude, people do sometimes realize they made a mistake, though they might not come right out and say it.
