Okay, this may not seem like an emergency but I don't know if I need to do something asap so the chicken doesn't die: one of our chickens snatched a nerf bullet when it was fired and swallowed it whole. Will this kill her? Will she pass it? Any guidance would be appreciated.

How big is the chicken that got the foam? And how big is the foam bullet? A pic please of both hen and bullet? (I know what it is but no kids around anymore to know about all the toys)

As it is foam it won't break down possibly cause an obstruction somewhere along the digestive tract. If it makes it to the gizzard more than likely. Does this foam absorp any fluids at all? If it absorps even a bit will definetly cause blockage. Besides what the foam is made out of may release some not so friendly elements into the chickens digestive tract. (Bacteria, fungus, caustic, poison compounds when reacting to digestive acids)

I would see if the foam was still in the crop by feeling it, if it is I would clear feathers from a small area, disenfect, then make an incision in the crop and remove the foam. Then use superglue or stitches to seal it up and keep the bird in a quiet place seperated from others for observation till it is healed. Watch for leakage from the incision site. Feed mushy foods till fully healed. Give antibiotic to prevent infection, keep area dry. Vitamins to assist healing, boost feed protein by giving moistened boiled egg.

It all depends on how badly you want to keep her, by culling, taking to vet or doing it yourself.

Good luck hope all works out.
