I believe this belongs in the hatching eggs threads, but move it if you wish lol
Okay, so I have seen lots of designs for layers/broody hens/chickens.
AND It's always a hassle moving a hen thats broody and then she decides she doesnt like this new place so stops brooding. Then you have WASTED a chance of hatching your own replacements, market birds, and the hen is most often culled by those wanting eggs(because it will take her 4 weeks to begin laying again)
So I dont know if this design is already out there, but this is my own version.
after all the trials and errors I have had myself I thout of a nest box designed for my layers and broody hens- to be axcessed(sp) all at once. No more moving the broody then she stops sitting. saves space also.
A nest box with a slit at the top so you can slide a wire door that has been cut to fit the nest box measurements. You'd have to have a long nest box however, to fit a food/water dish for the broody. Basically this design keeps the layers out when the chicks are hatching and keeps ur hen from abandoning eggs that have yet to hatch. you should not use this untill the last 2 days though, because this is total confinement for the broody.
