I have a nest box that is two cubbies high by 4 wide. How high off the floor should it be mounted?

Thanks! I currently have them about 3ft. off the floor. I think I will lower them to 2 ft.

I have an assortment of breeds. All proven layers and good winter birds. No frilly stuff here except a cute little bantam named Coco who is tiny (No idea of the breed).

What type of birds do you have? That could make a difference. I purposely kept the nestboxes low to the floor and the roosts only slightly higher. I have heavy birds and didn't want anyone spraining a leg jumping up and down.

Here is a picture of my nest boxes. My birds don't seem to have a problem with them.

Huh, after reading the posts in this section I am a bit concerned about my nestboxes......I have 3 Wyandottes and a Faverolle and they are quite big, 1 EE that is not as large and "bulky". I was concerned about having them jump too high (up or down) as they seem a bit clumsy at times. None of my chickens is named "Grace".... my nestboxes are low. Too low????

I have 2 nestboxes in their sleeping coop. The coop is about 3 feet off the ground and the boxes are on the floor of the coop. Actually the design of the coop as the side with the nestboxes has little doors to retrieve eggs without having to reach in from the door or lifting the roof.
The girls have a approx 60% wood enclosed pen, the rest is chickenwire....I put another 2 nestboxes about 5-6 inches off the floor and they like to sit in them when the weather isn't too good. They have no problems getting on the roost (approx 2.5 feet up) but they prefer a ledge in the coop that is about 14 inches up.......
I have not had any eggs yet but I am hoping anytime soon the Faverolle is going to lay (I assume.....she is 20 or 21 weeks old, the other chickens are 2 weeks younger)

Should I raise the coops? Should I limit the number of coops? Only have boxes in one area )inside the coop vs the more open pen?

Any suggestions/shared experience is greatly appreciated!!!!
