Nest Height?

ill get a picture if my wife can get me one. So the roost needs to be out in front of the nest, but higher than the nest. Will they would be stepping over poop to get into the nest? Would it be better to have it going along a different wall?
There is a difference between a roost (where they sleep) and a perch to assist getting to the nests.
This shows both:

Front-Base is 4X4 and height is 4ftt slanted to 3 feet in the back. I'm no carpenter, so but i'm happy with progress i've made on it. Will do pallet siding when nest box is complete.

Side view. Big opening will have either 1 door or 2 doors with a peep hole to check on chickens. Will open to allow clean out. Not sure if vents are big enough that are on side view.

nesting boxes, eggs will roll to back...everything with weather proof to try to help seal some of the holes from boards..

Like i sad its not perfect. Here is inside look of nest boxes. I know i have too many nest boxes but I really don't want to cover them up and lose that space. I still have to add elevated part in nesting box to allow the eggs to roll to the back.

sorry pictures rotated and won't change back.

I was looking at the first nest box photo and thinking what the heck is that and how does that work... then I scrolled down and saw the photo was rotated, rotated my head to match and looking good.

BTW, Gimp is a free photo editor that works on all platforms.

Oh that's the pop door location... hmmm... I assume that big opening is the human access? I guess it would have to go across from that.

Honestly I don't worry too much about chickens stepping in poop, my current set up has the roost ending right over the entrance and a quick morning clean up keeps it from being an issue. But if you worry they'll track it into the nest box, you can probably close access to the one closest to the roost bar, so they don't use it.

Is that one rectangle the only vent or are there vents under the eaves of the roof?

There is a vent on other side that but I will probably backyard add a view more vents to each side when I’m done. Probably just the circle holes.

Also don't be afraid of putting in a roost and then moving it later if it turns out that the initial location isn't working as planned. Roosts are generally easier to move around or redo, compared to other things in a coop.

If I understood it correct, there was some confusion here. Someone mentioned a perch to enter the nest is different than the roosting bar where they sleep.

Roosting bars should be higher than the height of the nesting boxes to prevent birds sleeping in the nests (birds sleep/roost on the highest area they can perch on) You can put the roosting bar on other walls as long as its higher or you can put them above the nests if you have poop boards protecting the nest from getting the droppings, which what i did to save space in the coop. Hopefully this helps.
