sure,,,
My one suggestion if you will use a 1x4 board, is to file, sand the edges. Most boards have sharp edges when planed. A typical 2 x 4 has somewhat rounded edges. It is just a little preventive measure to keep hens' foot injuries to a minimum.

Lol so my hubby for the past 3 nights ( when it’s dark) has gone out & put the girls on their roost ! Tonight he went out and Guess what??? They were roosting !!! ( all by themselves! It’s really sad that they had no mommy chicken to teach them!! We are a poor substitute but we’re trying thank-you everyone for your helo

I'm trying out artificial grass for my newly-laying pullets. Our first egg last week was laid in the pine shavings in the coop only a few inches from the nest boxes (which also have fake eggs in them), but the next day the egg was in the nest box. What attracted me to it was how easy they are to clean if there are broken eggs. We'll see how it goes as the egg laying picks up -- obviously there's a lot of options.

So exciting your girls started laying! Ours are 18 weeks old tomorrow.. we just today started their layer feed! Can hardly wait for that first egg! Keep us posted on how the artificial grass works! I bought those plastic nesting pads! But as a back up I would be interested in trying the artificial grass

A question? My 16 week old girls were sleeping in a nesting box .. we have since blocked them!!! They still won’t roost ! They just snuggle together in a corner of the coop! Will they ever roost! (

I need to know as well mine are not roosting and are about 4 weeks old.

At 4 weeks,, they are not totally feathered out yet. Don't see your location in profile, so no idea what temps overnight may be.
They may prefer to huddle together for warmth.
Have no fear,,, ALL chickens eventually prefer to roost. Some choose nest boxes out of fear of being bullied, or pecked by upper pecking order chickens. It is good to have multiple roosting places.
