I just finished this small coop/run and I am happy with the results. My question is, if you look at the left of the picture you can see my nesting box area. I just put my chicks in the coop and they already started chillin in the nest area. I do not have any layers yet, but I don't think this is a good habit. I have a two by two on the floor

it but that was just a speed bump to them. Any suggestions or is it ok for them at this age to venture into the nesting box area.

Just take a piece of plywood to block the nest boxes until they are ready to lay. You don't want them to form a habit to sleep and poop in there.

You can use put up some wire mesh over the front of the nest boxes and attach it with staples to keep them out until they get closer to laying age. How many roosts do you have in that coop, how wide are they, and are they higher than the nest boxes? I ask because adult hens sleep most comfortably with their feet flat. If the roosts aren't wide enough or high enough they will start sleeping in their nest boxes.
