Beautiful story and memories! Perhaps you will have the opportunity to begin a child with poultry and pass on this loved treasure from a woman that knew how to give a gift that taught responsibility, compassion and love.

What a wonderful lady your mentor was. Thanks for sharing this story to our forum. I bet every day when you check for eggs this lovely women comes to your mind.

This story has encouraged me to remember to treat our little neighbor children with kindness and patience as they will no doubt be curious about our new peeps. I can think of nothing more worthwhile then to have a child remember me twenty years from now with fondness because I introduced her to a life long passion for peeps and being kind to animals. Great story and a great example.

That looks awesome!! I had one just like that, that the grandparents had. We went a couple of winters without checkens and my mother-in-law took it and refurbished it and has it in her bedroom and puts socks and long johns in it. It looks really neat. It is getting used, so it is not going to waste.
