Nesting box

My ladies did good tonight!

Last night all in boxes, we put them on perches. Do not know if they stayed. Today only half were in boxes first check. The second check only one in nesting box! Last check all on perches! Thanks for the help. Hopefully tomorrow will be less.

We've just started getting eggs this week and are so excited!!! However, the girl(s) are laying in the corner of the coop instead of the nesting boxes. I have fresh bedding with Easter eggs in each box but they don't seem the least interested. The boxes are about the same height as the perch but they do not have an area to land on to help them into the box. This is an earlier photo of their first day in the coop but gives a good look at the nesting area. Should we add a landing board outside of the nesting boxes? We've got 12 hens and it's going to get messy if they stick to laying on the floor. Any suggestions??

Yep, they need a perch about 6-8" in front of the nests, so they can fly up and land on perch to take a look in nests before entering them...
.........and maybe a ramp to get up to perch. Put a bird or two up on the perch to show them, the rest should follow.

If the easter eggs are the hollow ones, maybe add some sand inside to weight them down some.
It can take up to a month or so for them to get things figured out.
