one of my reds is in her nesting box this morning seems to be giving me signs that she is gonna lay an egg. she is making a nest around her in the nesting box is that normal? she is also moving the ceramic egg and also covering it up with bedding what does that mean? new to the chicken world on the egg layiing and what to be looking out for. thank you everyone

Chickens scratch in their nesting boxes all the time, not just when they are going to lay. They sometimes cover up eggs to hide them from predators.

She is new to laying that is why I am asking!

Sounds like she's close to laying. Might not be today, but she's exploring the box and thinking about if it's a good spot to lay in.
