Nesting boxes....how many?

How many nesting boxes do I need? Do I need one for every hen or will they take turns using the same ones? I think we've decided to start off with 8-10 hens. I've seen where some people are using a dark colored plastic storage bin for nesting...any thoughts on this choice or do you think wood is best?

Get at least 4 for 8 to 10 hens. I think wood is best because that is what I use. It also seems to be more comforting for the hens.

1 box to every 6 hens is a good rule I find so 2 would be good. You will find that most of the hens will use the same box anyway. Plastic, wood, rubber are all fine, any non toxic solid material is good really.
