I came across a deal on used nesting boxes that I would like to add to my coop. It's a total of 14 boxes made out of galvanized steel with roosting posts but the catch is... each nesting box is only 8.5" wide. I'm new to chickens, they are only 1 week old today, but I assume they are all standard size breeds: Barred Rocks, Black Sex Links, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, and Buff Orpingtons. I've read the smaller the box the less chance of them eating their eggs, but how small is too small for these guys?

Thanks!

Yep those are standard sized birds, 8 inches is pretty small, our nest boxes are much bigger and I've never had egg eating issues, your birds will be around 5-8lbs (8 at the heavy side) and I'd say its too small. But maybe I am just spoiling my chickens with foot, foot and half wide boxes XD
