So, my chickens are 13 weeks old now. I know we still have a little bit to go before eggs but have read my production blues can lay as early as 16 weeks so I need to get ready. We dont have nesting boxes set up yet. What is your best advise for nesting boxes? Heres an image of inside my coop. We arent sure yet if we want to put them in the coop or build one off the side with an access door. I can get a recent picture but the only thing that changed is we now have a poop board under the roost.

First time owning chickens so many things are a first for me.

As far as how to build nests or where to put them I don't think there is a "best". If you look through these threads you'll see what some of us have done for nests. I defy you to find a common theme in these. Some are dark and enclosed, some are wide open. Some are low, some are high. Some are small, some are large. Some people will tell you that their way is best but if you pay attention you'll see others that do it differently and they work as well.

My suggestion is to make nests that are most convenient for you. You'll care about that much more than the chickens will. And it's very possible after you gain a little experience with your nests you'll wish you had done something different. But that comes with experience.
