What is best to have in the nesting boxes. Pine shavings,Straw or Hay? Thanks

I've never tested it, but I was told that chickens will eat hay, but not much straw. The hay consumption could lead to impacted crop. So I went with wood shavings (NOT cedar) and they kick them out a bit but it sure works.

Friendly guidance? You did get the right idea and start your own thread, but you need to be in a different category still. Perhaps you could PM a moderator or administrator and ask them to move the thread to Chicken Behaviors and Egglaying.
