My "Reds" are now at 9 weeks and I expect them to start laying by October. Out of my 5 chicks 2 turned out to be males and they will be leaving. I figure 2 boxes will be plenty as I plan to get 3 more hens to make a total of 6. My question is, will they try to roost in the nesting boxes if I put them in now? I have made roosts out of small tree limbs and they use those all the time, but I don't know if they'll change that when the boxes go in. Anyway to prevent that or am I worrying about nothing...this is my first flock.
