Hi all. Unfortunately my duck which has been sitting on eggs for three weeks got held off her eggs for about 4 hours today when strong wind blew the door shut while she was out washing in the pond . I'm worried the clutch will be lost although she is sitting on them agian now

There's a very good chance that they will hatch. At three weeks the embryos have gotten stronger and are more resilient. If you know how to candle eggs wait 24 hours and you will know for sure.

Thanks so much for ur advice . will I just check for movement in the eggs
You know, I've read many posts where people talk of seeing the embryos move within the egg; somehow I never have in the 50+ years I've been raising birds and candling eggs-except for when the eggs are internally pipping. When you candle, if the blood vessels are still distinct the embryos are alive. Once the heart stops pumping blood the veins start breaking down and you'll not see distinct veins; probably not any veins at all.

Much appreciated advice . Fingers crossed . If she goes out tonight before bedtime I'll try to candle or morning as she always goes out for a dip when I open up .thanks so much
