We have 5 hens and the past few weeks only 4 have been laying in the hen house. We have EEs and know which hen lays which egg. They freerange most of the day. They have been laying for almost a year now. One was broody and raised chicks over the summer and has now resumed laying.
Do you think the one that is not laying has a hidden nest or is she beginning a moult? She so far has come back the the henhouse every evening and stays with the others and the rooster during the day. Her feathers do not look unduly absent or ruffled compared to the others, but we are seeing more feathers around the yard.
I am leaning toward a nest.
