Nesting Material

Here in NJ, TSC carries both coarse and fine pine shavings. Perhaps your store could order it for you?
I have tried to do that with their bulk feed before and since we are so rural they wanted to charge us to deliver it from one store to the one that is closer to us. Maybe they wouldn't do it with this product though. If I can't find another way, I will certainly call them. Thanks! :)

So a huge headache I've been dealing with the last 2 years once I took in a hen from another farm is mites. I used to always use straw. I did a lot of research on exterminating the pests. In fact anemia killed one of my smaller hens which alerted me of the mite issue. Mites will hide inside the straw because it's hollow. Hay is not hollow. Hemp is an option. Pine shavings are an option. I finally have resorted to buying the hemp bedding that's shaped and fit right for my lay boxes. If you're not concerned about mites straw worked great for years with me until it didn't.
