Nesting ringnecks

Two hens or two males, either way they will incubate. The males of course, have no eggs, but they do take turns sitting in the nest and pretending

I have put lightbulbs (the little nightlight kind) as well as quail eggs under male pairs, and they sat on them like nothing was different.

Great news! I caught the female doing the feeding thing with the male. She's ready to go, but he's acting like he's not quite sure what to do. I have no idea how old he is, since he's the one that just showed up in the yard one day. He is sticking with the nest, though, so I'm thinking he'll get it all figured out pretty soon. I put some bits of straw in the cage, and they're still prepping the nest...

Is "he" bow cooing to his partner? That's usually the sign that the bird is indeed a male ringneck.

You should at least let them sit the eggs a little while or get some fake eggs for them to set. Otherwise your females will wear themselves out with laying eggs.

I have one pair that keeps trying to nest, but so far the eggs haven't been good. I've been leaving the egg (yes, only one for some reason) with them until they give up, that way the hen won't just keep laying.

Yes, and the wing flicks, the crazy laughs, and the softer cooing. I also did the pelvic bone test, and fortunately, there's an obvious difference. The one that was sold to me as a female had a very wide space that my finger slipped easily into, and the white one's was much narrower. I couldn't fit my finger between the bones.

OMG!!! I have two eggs in the nest!! I'm not sure when she laid them, but the last one had to have been this weekend, since the male hasn't really moved off the nest since yesterday. It's kind of hard to tell exactly when, since they've both been off and on it and still stuffing bedding into it since at least Saturday. Maybe in two weeks I'll have some babies!

If I were to stick a Serama egg in the nest, would I have to take it out as soon as it hatched? Would they try to feed it?
